M.Cat., coll. 10 aud 17). Of its threo compilors Martin Chemnitius (or Chemnitz) was born at Treuenbritzen in Nortli Germany in 1522 and died at Brunswick in 1586 ; Polycarp Lyserus was born 1552 and died in 1601; and Johanu Gerhard, several of whoso works were rendered into Icelaudic, was born at Quedlinburg in 1582 aud died 1637. As Gerhard was born ouly four years bcfore tlie death of Chemnitz it is prob- able that Bp. Þóröur Þorláksson, the editor of the ‘llar- monia,’ may have compiled it from the works of the tliree autliors. 24.
