The explanation of this is to be found in a postscript by Bp. Steinn Jónsson (dated Hólar Febr. 27th, 1719) at the end of the first part of thecomplete issue. The printing of the volume was begun in the year 1718, but was discontinued for want of paper; the title-page and preface were, however, printed, and a few copies issued. The next year the printing was finished, but the same title-page was used, although it only applies to the contents of the temporary issue, namely from the first Sunday of Advent to the first Sunday after Easter, while the first part really comprises the sermons up to Trinity- Sunday. These are the editions of the “Vidalíns-po- stilla” : 1. Hólar 1718-20 (see B. M. Cat. col. 8). 2. Hólar 1724 - 26 (see Bibl. Not. IV. no. 42). 3. Hólar 1736 - 38 (see no. 57). The British Museum library possesses 8 editions including an imperfect one of 1594.
