At the age of 26 he went abroad to study art, first to London and then to Copenhagen, where he attended the Teknisk Selskabs Skole and was sub- sequently six years at the Royal Academy. Here he passed his final examinations, after which he stayed a few more years in Denmark. Also studied in Italy 1920 and in France 1926. Has participated in many exhibitions abroad. Some of his works are in the Danish State Art Gallery in Copenhagen and in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He is the most senior of ali Icelandic painters.
