Born March 4, 1876, died April 5, 1958. Worked in his early years on the land and as a sea- man. Went to Copenhagen in 1897, where he first attended a design school for one year and then the Royal Academy for three years, after which he lived a few more years there. Made study trips to Germany and Italy. He was the first Icelandic painter to devote himself entirely to his art. Spe- cialized in landscapes. Took part in exhibitions in various European countries. Some of his works are to be found in public art galleries in Denmark. As well as receiving various honors in Iceland he was made an honorary member of the Swedish Academy of Art in 1952 and also awarded the Danish danne- BROG ORDER. 1.
