The tourist making one of a party on a tour to the sights de rigeur only, does not need any special outfit for the fortnight or so he will he on the island. He should take with him merely a change of underclothing, a coloured flannel shirt or two, a stout Macintosh, and a few other indispensable articles, and a couple of thick rugs for use during the night or so’s tent-life at the Geysir. If an angler, such a rod as is hereafter described. Zoega will pro- vide boxes for the articles taken, and also for the provisions ; likewise a ground sheet. The tourist or' sportsman making a lengthy tour, however, will need to pay some attention to the matter of outfit, and must provide himself with a pair of travelling boxes specially constructed for Icelandic travel, or he will find his impedimenta a constant source of annoyance. Owing to the only means of transport being by pack-ponies, travelling boxes must be limited in length to about two feet, and adapted to the pack-saddle in use in Iceland. The author will therefore give a description of the boxes suitable, so that the tourist may get a carpenter to make a pair for him. It should be premised that it is absolutely neces- sary that they be made waterproof by some means, and lining with thin sheet zinc is unquestionably the best plan ; it is far preferable to caulking and pitching the seams or to the use of tin, as the former is sure sooner or later to jar out, and the latter is liable to
