E’en as a floweret, growing On a smooth meadow-side, Fair in fresh blossom showing First in day’s morning-tide, That one stroke earthward sendeth, In one brief moment’s span, With leaves and hues — so endeth Swiftly the life of man. 2. As tender chiidhood speedeth O’er death’s uncertain ways, Old heavy age proce.edeth : All run the selfsame race. Sealed term for life’s fruition Was ne’er vouchsafed to men, All bide the one condition Hence to depart again.
