He surveyed the inscription at different hours of the day, and in different light, also after sunset, and then he communicated to me such traits as he imagined he had discovered with certainty. Before I had not ventured on any conjecture, but supposing that the second word, which with certainty could he dis- cerned to begin with a I', must be a verb, I next requested him to examine whether this word might not be TIM''; I supposed that the word must be U'tk in case it could not be read NT (let). He described very exactly every visible trace, and made it manifest that this conjecture could not be right, and 1 was since, by the drawing and descriptions of the traces, led to another interpretation. This supposition is strengthened by the circumstance that such an infinitive actually occurs in another Runic inscription, viz on the Frciso stone in Jaemteland (L 1085, B 1112, W 522), where it is stated about Austmod Gudfastson (MIWTYbNk KIWdhTd/h NT KR.IhThj: I^TdhbST: hon let kristno Jota- lo.nt , where accordingly |s occurs in more words than one instead of the usual + or d: “he caused Jamtaland to be christened.” But it is not at all uncommon that (s in
