!2o Iceland in tlje PHobican. I would like to see the machine that did it,” and, opening his mouth, showed a cavern of a throat that interested me greatly, so fitted was it for the perfect making of sweet sound. Some of the best talent in the world is found on the Saturday evenings of the Savage Club, and the G.O.M. sighed to think of the nights he had missed, when the Historian gave a poor description of some of them. Henry S. Leigh was a pet of that band of celestials, with his quaint original songs and “ Carols of Cockayne,” to which he strummed his own accompaniment on the piano. If he had been of our party he would have sung “ The Twins,” in honour of our two Dromios— “ In form and feature, face and limb, I grew so like my brother, That folks got taking me for him, And each for one another. It puzzled all our kith and kin, It reached an awful pitch : For one of us was born a twin And not a soul knew which ! ” The Commodore kept us in a roar with some of his recollections of early days, and we could quite well understand how he had played pranks at the “dancing,” and made his schoolmaster tremble at the thought of his next mischief. He and the G.O.M. have a good stock of fun and mischief in them yet, which keeps them both so fresh and young in spirit. It is most instructive to listen, and compare the old days as described by them with the present improved age. Human nature is the same, but our fun and mischief, as well as our work and business methods, seem to run in different channels now.
