Left Reikjavik at 10.50 p.m., in company with S.S. ‘ Camcens.’ ” THIS Saturday morning was ushered in by the usual daylight which is common in all countries, and especially common here. Dawns are scarce in Iceland at present, because the day is about three months long, but this daylight may pass without remark. It generally does so pass with the lazy Historian, who waits for more urgent summonses, such as darning needles, wet sponges, or boots thrown at him by anxious friends—painfully “early birds,” who never give the poor “worm ” a chance. The sluggard who would not go to his aunt in pursuit of wisdom, and “hinge-jured” his pros- pects by emulating the harmless, necessary door, had much peaceful enjoyment which is not reported by the sacred and energetic writer; but we shall not discuss that question here. This morning Archie and his smoking plate of porridge were welcomed effusively at 7 a.m., for did it not awaken the Historian only to think that another hour’s sleep might yet be got ? The Commodore for once only had earned the gratitude of the whole company by consenting to a late breakfast. The morning bath was “extra sec" in its stimulating and reviving influence.
