XXX tum conceííit, fed cum Snorrone plerumqve difcors, qvem & Snorro magna farris mole íþoliavit: mercator enim, qvanti venderet, fuum eífe ut determinaret, dixit, Snorrone contra jura provin- cialia urgente, eífe nimirum toparchæ, peregrinarum mercium pretium conftituere; qvam injuriam, ut vocabat, fíbi illatam mercator, ufqve dum abiret, diífímulavit, tum autem Gudmundum Dia- conum, qvi hujus rei & præcipuus inftigator & coryphæus fuerat, lethaliter vulneravit. Qvare, ira accenfus Snorro, fratres fuos Thordum & Sighvatum, cum fuis cohortibus, ut fecum a merca- tore pœnas fumerent, arcerfívit, qvi jam ad lingulam Seliaeyre, ad abeundum paratus in anchoris ftabat, ubi eum colleftis aliqvot navigiis fruftra adorti funt, mercatores enim fe tam ftrenue defen- debant, ut Sturlungis cum dedecore defíftendum eflet: fed defunftus hoc periculo mercator, poft longam in oceano oberrationem, fub autumnum in portum Eirarbachenfem repellitur, & in Odda apud Sæmundum Jonæ hyemavit, qvi in gratiam paterni & fui amici Biarnii Epifcopi eum recepit. Id autem Snorro audiens, tres Thorkillo immifít fícarios, qvi omnes anteqvam facinus perpetrare poflent, proditi funt, ita ut Snorro ex hoc fa£to detrimentum tantum & dedecus reportaret. §. XII. Paucos Snorro in Borga federat annos, anteqvam Reikholtum appetere cœpit, fed qvo præcife anno id naftus fuerit, nefcitur. Certum faltim eft id faftum efle ante annum 1209, ut ex Sturlun- gorum Hift. lib. IV. cap. 6. patet. Hoc autem prædium partem hæreditatis jure (ut videri voluit) partim ceífíone Magni Sacerdotis Pauli filii in fuam redegit poteftatem. Ex hiftoria notum eft, qvod multi qvondam templa erexerunt in prædiis fuis, illisqve minores villas & alia adjecerunt, ea condi- tione, ut nunqvam abalienarentur, fed femper ex fuis pofteris qvidam eis præeflet, qvi ufum fru- £tum percipiens, omnia farta tefta confervaret. Hocce hæreditarium jus jam ad Magnum Pauli Sol- vidæ filium devolutnm fuit, fed caufabatur Snorro, euin id injufto titulo tenere, cum ejus proavus non fuerat legitime genitus, fed nothus, íuos autem majores legitimos fuifle hæredes, ideoqve hoc privilegium fíbi potius deberi. Sed cum hoc juris prætextu caufam penitus obtinere non poflet, cefíione opus etiam fuit, cujus modus& conditiones tales fuerunt. Magnus jam fenefcens, ut templi bona & præbendam rite adminiftraret, impar faflus efle videbatur, filii autem ejus juniores, qvam ut illis tantum negotium concredi poflet. Snorro itaqve in eo fuam obtulit opem, omnibus profu- turam, ut Magnum & ejus uxorem Hallfridain in feneðute honefte fuftentaret, filios autem eorum educaret, & ad eam, qvæ par videri pofíet, fortunam promoveret. Approbante has condidones Thordo Snorronis avunculo, qvi huic hæreditati proximus efle videbatur, Snorro Reikholtum ad-- eptus, Magnum & Hallfridam diu fuftentavit, nam eos anno 1224 in vivis & in Reikholto fuifle patet ex Hift. Eccl. Ifl. Tom. I. pag. 206, tunc enim præfente Magno Epifcopo, prædium & templum ei prorfus emanciparunt. Dum autein has curas Snorro animo volvebat, fertur Eigillus Skallagrimi f. domeftico cuidam Snorronis in fomniis apparuifle, & hanc mutationem carmine comminatorio dif- fváílfle, qvod Snorro nihili æftimavit. §. XIII. Hicubi lares pofuerat, prædium qvovis modo ornare cœpit, ut enim ipfe fuit ingeniofíífímus, ita & ad qvævis facienda, formanda, & ornadífíme concinnanda folerdífímus. Totam itaqve vil- lam non modo reformavit, fed renovavit, & validiífímis circumdedit munimentis, qvæ nifi aldífí- marum fcalarum ope afcendi non potuerunt, iisqve non modo templum & cœmeterium, fed edam ovile, bovile, &ejusmodi ædificia inclufít, ut longam fuftinere obfidionem poflet, fí modo debite defenderetur. Thermas feu aqvas ferventes, non longe á villa fcaturientes, & magno in altum im- petu ebullientes, lateqve fervidas aqvas diffundentes, á magno qvo fubinde erumpunt fragore, præ- fertim fí ventus aut fít revera borealis, aut anteqvam ex ea plaga fpirare incipit, Scribla nominatas, fepiraento qvodam inclufít, qvodtamen, qva de caufa non dicam, ætatem ferre non potuit. Per fubterraneum autem aqvæduftum, ex feðo lapide & cæmento non vulgari, fed ex thermarum to- pho præparato confeflum, ad ædes & intra villæ fepimenta aqvas deduxit, ubi canalis hicce tholoclau- ditur perforato, per cujus circulare foramen, qvod pro lubitu nunc aperiri nunc obturari poteft, aqva in ipfum balneum infunditur, ita utcalor aqvæ & balnei hoc modo temperari poífít, non vero alterius canalis ope, frigidam adducentis, ut ícribit doftiff.
