Youth issues A double standard is operated by adults to- wards teen-agers. They are treated as children. Their role in society is undefined. They are not trusted with responsibility, yet are made to face the consequences of their actions when they come into conflict with society. The great work overload and political disregard for the needs of the family is detrimential to the teen-ager. We cannot ignore the fact that many of them are in great trouble for personal or social reasons. The Women's Alliance wants to bring at- tention to the increasing number of children and teen-agers who take drugs. It goes without saying that society has a duty to give teen-agers in trouble some realistic help. The main emphasis should be on preventive measures, not only creative recre- ational activities but also efficient help for children in trouble. In this way we are working towards a happy life for each individual and we save ourselves expensive measures later on. The Women's Alliance wants: 2 youth work in this country to be reorganized in order to give young people bet- ter facilities for creative recreational activities, athletics and cultural activities, 2 social centres to be built in as many places as possible, where teen-agers can participate in shaping the way they are run from the outset, 2 young girls to have the opportunity to work in special groups in social centres and in school recreation whose aim is to raise their consciousness concerning their position, 2 those who deal with teen-agers to work together at shaping an efficient policy against drug abuse so that individual steps are more productive. 12
