The Women's Alliance wants 9 that junior comprehensive schools are ensured financing which al- lows for vigorous school activity, $ that no effort be spared to recruit trained teachers for teacher's posts around the country, 9 that equality for education be respected in real terms by determined strengthening of basic education all around the country, 9 that all junior comphrensive schools should be one-setting schools instead of offering pupils morning or afternoon shifts. 9 that the pupils school hours be contiuous and adjusted to their par- ent's working hours and meals should be available in schools, 9 an increase in small tutors groups in remote areas in the countryside, directed from mother schools, to avoid long periods of transport or se- parations between young children and their parents. Demands for school day-centers should be met where pupils can stay and work after their school hours, 9 that education for peace will be carried out in schools, 9 that academic, vocational and education in the arts should be of equal importance and everyone should have equal access to such educa- tion, 9 that Icelandic production of curriculum material for schools be strongly supported and increased, fully respecting the perspective of equality, 9 that the number of pupils in large classes or groups be reduced, 9 that special education and personal and educational counselling should meet demands, 9 that junior comprehensive schools can themselves be in charge of their own running and internal affairs by consultation of teachers, par- ents and pupils, 9 that the rights of parents and pupils to have real influence on school policy be legalised and that school boards and committees with teachers, parents and pupils be established in every junior comprehen- sive school. 15
