Akureyri 1853), 8 by the well - known hymnologist Lor- valdur Böðvarsson, and 4 by Magnús Stephensen. This prayer - book is popularly known as “Bjarnabænir”. The publication of another prayer - book two years later (see Bibl. Not. IV. no. 99), seerns to indicate thatthe pre- sent one was not favourably received, as is intimated by the preface of the prayer-book of 1800,saying that the word “new” on the title - page has probably frightened many souls, who fear all innovations. There are, however, five subsequent editions of it, four printed at Viðey : 1824 (see no. 100), 1832(see Bibl. Not. IV. no. 121), 1834 (see no. 126), 1841 (see Brit. Mus.
