Lossii Medulla eþistolica, each having its own t.-p, and pagination. This third work is lackingin the Brit. Mus. series. Itcon- tains a sermon of St. Bernard on the propiietical passages in chap. 53 of Isaiah and a register, as stated above, to all three of the works. It lacks all after sig. B or p. 28. In the present collection the first part (Dilherr) has the t.-p. in MS and lacks pp. 31-32, while thc second part (Lossius)is perfect. In the Iírit. Mus. Cat. the positions of the first two parts should be reversed. All theparts com- plete are of excessive rarity. The Copenhagen Royal Lib- rary has such a copy in admirable condition (Bruun, I. 488). 28. In the calendar pages proper the zodiacal signs, ecclesiastical and astronomical letters, names of the months and names of certain saints are in red. Catch- words ; page 8 x 5. 2 ; page - lines 21. Contents : Til Lesarans, signed Þ. Th. S. (-• Bp. Lóröur Lorláksson), f. lb ; Icelandic dates and astronomical signs, f. 2a; calendar (each month two pages) íf. 2b. -14 a ; Stutt Vtskij'ring þessa Calcndarii (introduction and I-XXII Ca- pitule), pp. 1-117, closing with some Latin lines (Libellus Lectori) followed by a translation of the same (Kvered Lesaranum) by síra Arni Þorvarösson (pastor Thingvellir and the bishop’s coadj’utor) and an interlaced printer’s ornament. Allafter the Calendar is occupied by astro- nomical information, with various figures and tables. — Printed with this and usually bound with it, as was the custom, was a little book of prayers (in this case Exerci- tium Precurn IJad er Christileg Bæna Idkun) translated by Bp. ÞórÖur from the German of Dr. Joliannes Olear- ius. Of this the collection now has two perfect copies (sec Bibl. Not. IV. no. 25). It isnotable thatthe title as given by the Hist. Eccles. is confusing ; no. 25 in vol. III. p. 677 is not the present calendar, for it has no Appendix : Observ. Medicae & Gudsþialla visur, as stated there, while the present is a second and improved edition of the Calendarium perpetuum (edit Hól. 1673) and is cited near the bottom of p. 678, in connection with the Hólar book, as : Idem, þaulo correctius ; Skalhollti 1692. Among the books cited as issued at Hólar by the Hist. Eccles. no l'-73 calendar is given, but one of 1671 is mentioned. Turningnowto p. 677 of the Hist. Eccles. we find the Exercitium Precum or Bænabok of Olearius, which is, in the present casc at least, bound with the Ca- lendarium Perpetuum, cited in the Skálholt book - list undcr no 6 (1692).—Concerning Bp. Þóröur Þorláksson’s acquaintance with astronomy see the Historia Ecclesias- tica^ III. pp. 678. 30.
