Mus. Cat. col. 10.) which is likewise in the collection.—The double hyphen, reproduced, excep- tionally, in these titles, was exclusively employed until the abandonment of the Gothic letter. Halldór Jacobsson was born 1734; left the Skálholt Cathe- dral school in 1753 and went to the University of Copen- hagen, where he studied law and graduated in 1756 ; the following year he was appointed sheriff (sýslumaður) of Strandasýslu, but was dismissed in 1764, again appointed in 17G6 and dismissed for the second time in 1788. Fredrik Kristoffer Trampe was governor - general (stipt- amtmaður) of Iceland 1806 -1810. The present copy is slightly mutilated. 95. Hjer hvilir merkur Mann, Magnus Jonsson, ... Broadside in black border. Epitaph on Magnús Jónsson, who was born in 1732 and died in 1807, minister of three congregations, was three times married and had two children. Such is the inforination given about the deceased. At end is: Gódum setti Tengdaf0dur Tengda- sonur. The clergyman in qucstion must be Magnús Jóns- son, rector of Saurbær í Eyjafirði, and the author of the epitaph was his son-in-law, Siguröur Jónsson, at the death of his father-in-law rector of Saurbær, afterwards of Goö- dalir (d. 1848).
